Beef Stroganoff

Known to have originated in Russia, Beef Stroganoff or Stroganov is a dish popularly found all over the world. A simple quick farmers dish, made with the most basic ingredients in any house hold. Have a go.. & see for yourself!!


Beef loin – 200gm
Maida – 2tbsp
Butter – 1tbsp
Oil – 2tbsp
Onion chopped – 1/2 no.
Garlic chopped – 4 cloves
Red bell pepper – 1/2 no.
Yellow bell pepper – 1/2 no.
Mushroom – 4no.
Worcestershire sauce – 1 1/2 tbsp
Water – 1/2 cup
Sour cream – 1 tbsp
Mustard – 1/2 trp
Parsley chopped – 1 tbsp
Salt & pepper – to taste

1) Prepare your ‘mise en place’ first by chopping all the vegetables & beef. Arrange evenly for ease of use.
2) Mix a tea spoon of salt with the maida. Add in the beef slices & with your finger tips, lightly mix to evenly coat the strips of meat with the maida. Dust & remove access flour.
3) In a hot pan, mix in the butter & oil. Once hot, add in the strips of meat & quickly shallow fry, till golden brown. Remove onto a piece of napkin to remove excess oil.
4) To the same pan, add in the chopped onion & garlic. Sauté till translucent & add in the bell peppers & mushrooms. Sauté for about 2 min & then add the beef. Give it a good toss & add the Worcestershire sauce & 1/2 cup of water. Finish with the sour cream & mustard, give a final stir & take off the heat.
5) Serve with steamed rice!! Enjoy..
